JOY HANSER – JOY IN ART

Joy Hanser was born in Amsterdam, Holland, to artistic parents. Then and now she is moved by the beauty that she finds in many different and even unusual places and by the awesome web of life. She has explored many subjects in traditional and new media.

“My art is like unguided travel, an adventure where the sudden discovery inspires the response and the trick to making the most of it is to become invisible yourself during the experience. I let the subject dictate the medium and style of expression.”

During the past few years Joy’s struggle has been the tension between the discipline of creating a coherent style in a body of work and her natural inclination to explore and experiment. She is presently resolving this by working in series, allowing her imagination to free-associate through various media and following divergent threads of a theme.

Paint, texture, drawing, collage, layering, pastels, photography, portraits, sculpture, faux painting, and large murals all form a part of the artist’s repertoire. An early education in graphic design has played a large part in developing technical versatility.
Although Joy’s art is largely self-propelled, she is grateful for innate inspiration and ongoing nurture. Her artistic family, art books and the West Coast rainforest provided an early rich environment. Murals, signs and faux painting continue to be a source of income, and presently work in the movie industry expands her boundaries.
